  13. was.

  15. Least Enchanted Ten Weeks:  The Broadway revival of Private Lives, in
  16. which Resistible Force Richard Burton met Immovable Object Elizabeth
  17. Taylor, and the play sank in a wave of critical catcalls.

  19. Sexiest Secret Agent:  Sean Connery, who returned to play 007 in Never
  20. Say Never Again and easily beat Mannequin Roger Moore (Octopussy) in
  21. the battle of the Bonds.

  23. Squeakiest Door:  The homosexuality closet on Broadway, which was
  24. vividly pried open with the Tony-winning Torch Song Trilogy and the
  25. hit musical La Cage aux Folles.

  27. Saddest Alien:  E.T., who found that being box-office champ could not
  28. keep him (and his creator steven Spielberg) from getting trampled in
  29. the Oscar race by Gandhi.

  31. Happiest Aliens:  The extraterrestrials who populated Return of the
  32. Jedi, the Star Ward sequel that took in almost $300 million at the
  33. motive theaters in its first six months.

  35. Longest War:  ABC's 18-hour The Winds of . . . brought Herman Wouk and
  36. a platoon of stars to prime time and proved that, with a $40 million
  37. budget and $35 million worth of on-air promotion, a mini-series can
  38. still snag record numbers of viewers.
  39.  
  40. Most Versatile Talent:  Playwright-Actor Sam Shepard, who scored off-
  41. Broadway with his dynamo dramas True West and Fool for Love, and on-
  42. screen as the sexy incarnation of Test Pilot Chuck Yeager in The Right
  43. Stuff.
  44.  
  45. Highest Rebound:  Bette Midler, who stormed back from a jinxed movie
  46. career to recover her standing as Ms. Show Biz with as 50-city concert
  47. tour, a cable-TV special, a new album, and a bestselling book, The
  48. Saga of Baby Divine.
